Amendment 6 Kevin

The main idea of the sixth amendment is that if you can't afford a lawyer (legal counsel ) either try to get one or the government will get you one. This amendment is interesting to me because I know It can protect me.

Amendment 9 Dana

The main idea is that not all rights can be listed in the Constitution. There are so many basic human rights that not all of them could be listed in the Constitution. Just because a right isn't expressly written into the Constitution that doesn't mean it isn't exactly a right. For example,no where in the Constitution does it talk about your right to have children, but this would be a right that people have. The government can't say who may have children and who may not.

Dana

7th amendment

The 7 th amendment is about the right to trial by jury. We chose this amendment because we are interested in how juries work.

Sean and Hunter

Amendment 1 Jenna

The amendment that I chose was amendment I. Amendment I says that everyone has the freedom of speech, religion and press. It also says that you have the right to assemble and petition government (ask questions). Amendment I interests me because without it we would not be able to stand up for what we believe in.

Jenna

Amendment 1 jenn

Amendment #1is about freedom of speech, freedom or religion, and the press. This is the right to assemble, and the right to petition government. This amendment was chosen by me be cause I believe this amendment is a amendment that should protect my ability to say what's on my mind.

Desirae

First Admendment

I chose the First Amendment because it makes illegal to make a law that establishes religion, stops the freedom of speech.Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. They can't prohibit the free excercise thereof. The rights of people to peacefully to assemble.Stop people from demonstrating against the goverment. This is why I chose the First Amendment.

Niaviana G.

Amendment one

I chose amendment one for this post. The main idea of ammendment one is to have freedom of religion, speech, and press. This amendment is important to me because I go to church and without this amendment the government could tell me not to go.

Kayleigh

The 1st amendment

The first amendment is mainly talking about freedom. It's talking about freedom of religion, freedom of speech and the press, and also has the right to gather and the right to talk to the government. The first amendment of the bill of right let's us have freedom and rights.Another reason I chose the 1st amendment because it gives us free religion and rights to everyone. That is why I chose the 1st amendment. Miller W.

Amendment 8

Original Amendment: Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

Summary:You can oppose bail that is too high or that should not have been charged. People also cannot be given cruel and unusual punishment because it is illegal. This bail interested me because it is a necessary amendment and should be taken seriously; not just by people and not just by the state itself, but by the world as one.

7th amendment

Amendment 8

You can't excessively keep bailing someone out over and over. The judge can't give a big excessive bond. The judge can't make cruel and unusual punishments. The judge can't give stiff fines. Thats good so they have a chance to get out. But i also think it's bad because if they do something bad they have a chance to get out of jail. I chose this amendment because it interested me. It interested me because it was about bonds and I watch shows about bondsman.

David K

Amendment I

The main idea of the 1st amendment is that congress can not make any laws respecting an establish of religion or when you can't do something ,you will get free excise thereof ,and we get to bring freedom to our country and our city's and completely out state ,we do all of this peacefully the assemble petition and complete a government for a redress of Grevnials . That's the main idea of amendment number one.

From Judicial to Legislative...

This week we will be honing in on the legislative branch and the Bill of Rights. Please visit the Bill of Rights Institute webpage by clicking here to view a full listing of the first ten amendments written by James Madison.

Choose one of the ten amendments to explicate, and translate the main idea. Be sure to use details from the amendment to support your explanation. This time, you must use also include a another source of media (a picture, a news article, or a movie) found on the internet that is related to your amendment. Your extension/summary should include why you chose the amendment that you chose.

Daily objectives:

We will learn to insert pictures into blog posts, finish our mock trial, and prepare to create an iBook about what we have learned.

Executive branch

If we had to choose which branch to be in it would be the executive branch because the executive branch suggests laws to the legislative branch. It also carries out laws. The head of the executive branch is the president.

By:hunter and Sean

Executive branch

I chose the executive branch because it can suggest laws, and I like to make my own decisions. I also like to share my ideas. I'm a lot like the executive branch because I like to participate in everything . The executive branch can suggest laws and can carry out laws.
If I could suggest laws, I would say that Chill Froyo would stay open all the time because some people like to eat yummy treats after school. The executive branch also leads laws like I lead my family and my classmates. That's what I would do, that's why I chose the executive branch .

legislative branch

I would want to be the legislative branch because the legislative branch gets to make the laws for the country. It is also known as congress and has two parts: Senate and the House of Representatives. I would also create laws like no eating candy because it's bad for your body, and no drugs at stores becase other people may be drug free. I also want to be the legislative branch because I would raise up taxes to get more money to pay back our debts to the government. That is why I want to be the legislative branch. Miller W.

Legislative branch

We would like to work for the Legaslative branch. We would like to make laws for the country and help do justice and peace. These are the reasons we would like to make laws. We would like to make laws like donate food to the homeless because we wouldn't like them to starve to death. No texting while driving and no drunk driving because people can get arrested, hurt, and/or killed. The branch is also called Congress. Congress has the power to raise money through taxes or by borrowing. The money is used to pay for goods and services.

The Preamble of the U.S.A.
"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and to our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America"

Dana and Byron

The executive branch

We would be the executive branch because we would get to suggest laws even though the don't always get approved. Also it carries out laws is made by congress .The president is the head of the branch. Since that branch suggest laws, Here is one of ours,WeI suggest that there should be more electricians and exterminators because some might be too busy. There should be more homeless shelters for the less fortunate. Last there should be more affordable electronics and games because games cost around 60$ that's a lot of money.Last we would be the executive branch because you can make very generous laws. That is why we would be the executive branch of Goverment

Kayleigh and Kevin

Legislative Branch: David k & Jenna

We would choose the legislative branch if we had to choose a branch to work for. We would choose this branch because we would like to make the laws. The legislative branch is similar to the executive branch because the executive branch suggest laws but the legislative branch makes them. One law we would make is no homework because we do work all day at school and then we go home and do more work. As children, we just do not like doing work but as an adult, you could see it this way: we can't do chores or stay physically fit by exercising. Most children need time to be children. Be aware that the legislative branch makes nationwide laws, so all children in America would not have to do homework. If we were part of the legislative branch, we would also make a law that all homeless people are given jobs to support themselves. These are the reasons we would want to be part of the legislative branch.

Legislative Branch

If I was able to work in one of the Branches of Government it would be the Legislative Branch because I would be able to make the laws.
One law I think should be made is the police should obey the laws as most people do. Another law that should be made is all kids should stay in school because everyone needs an education. The kids can stay in school until they are in college. They can skip college. This is why we picked the legislative branch to make laws.

Desirae and Jevon

Legislative Branch

The Judicial Branch

If we could be one branch it will be the Judicial Branch. The Judicial branch decides meaning of the laws, and it also determines whether laws have been followed. Our dream is to become a judge one day so we can be part of the judicial branch. We believe that this will be a way to give our opinion to the states. We don't care about the making the laws. We care about interpreting the meanings of the laws. We want to make sure these laws are appropriate and make sure these laws are strictly enforced. These are the reasons why we chose the Judicial branch.

By:Niaviana and Vaunia

Legislative Branch

We would work as a legislative branch because we could make our own laws. One law we could make is, no homework Monday
Thursdays because we have already worked at school and we can relax on those days after school. Last of all, sometimes we are bored on weekends so, teachers can give their students homework on weekends to get their mind going on until the next lesson at school. That is why we chose the legislative branch.

Branches of the Government

Today we will be learning about Graham v. Florida, a Supreme Court Case about sentencing for juvenile offenders. You will listen to Podcasts on NPR on the recent debates concerning whether or not it is ethical to sentence a juvenile to life in prison without parole. Some argue that because of the severity and the innate immaturity of juveniles, it is cruel and unusual for our court systems to waiver all hopes of rehabilitation and re-sentencing. Near the end of class, we will have a mock trial and you will decide.

Open Response Question of the Day:

If you could work for one of our three branches of government, which one would you choose and why? What would you do with your authority?

Remember to use the APE method to respond to the prompt. Work with partners to complete this assignment. Each post should have two (or three) authors per one post for a grand total of 8 posts total. You have 30 minutes to complete this assignment. Work efficiently, proofread before you post, and expound, expound, expound!

If you finish early, check out this website: http://const4kids.forums.commonground13.us/?p=19 which explains the preamble to our constitution.

I am cytoplasm because...

I'm most like cytoplasm because I'm always in the middle of people, and sometimes I feel like I'm in a thick jelly-like substance. When I don't get my way, I just feel like I'm stuck. I have many more reasons, but there's one more I want to say. I'm everywhere at anytime just like the cytoplasm in the cell. So I'm like a cell in many ways. Thats why Im like cytoplasm.

Brianna

The eightH amendment

The main idea of amendment 8 is people That can't have bail that is too high. They also cannot be given any cruel or unusual punishment, which means bad or mean punishment. I chose amendment 8 because I relate to it since my uncle went to jail three times and he could not post bail the last time.

Jevon and James

Why I Am Like the Vacuole

I am most like like vacuoles because I store EVERYTHING in my room. My bedroom is more like a storage room– it is where stuff that is important in my family is stored. They probably use my room because I am the oldest in my family, and I can be trusted. I'm mostly like the vacuole in the plant cell, since there is only one of me. One, main, me...Not a bunch of little me's. Unlike the vacuole, I don't store water, food, or waste. I store things like important family pictures. Those are the reasons I am like the vacuole in the plant cell!

Jenna V

I am the cell wall...

I am the cell wall because I defend myself and my family. Like the cell wall, I decide if I let people in or out. The cell supports the cell like I support my family and friends. I protect everybody I love. That is why I would be the cell wall.

I am a mitochondria.

I am a mitochondria because in my research I discovered that it gives energy, and I have a lot of energy just like the mitochondria. I also read that it is the power-plant of the cell, and I can be as energetic as as the mitochondria. The mitochondria is also a reliable part of the cell, and people also rely on me. That is why I am like the mitochondria.

This is Miller from the St.Elmo Explorers.

I am a mitochondria because....

I am a mitochondria because the mitochondria is the power plant. I give people energy when they feel down. I help them laugh and joy up.The mitochondria is in both plant and animal cell . I give energy to boys and girls.Mitochondria is peanut shape. People say my head is peanut shape. That is how I relate t othe mitochondria.

David K. Is a cell wall because he is awesome.

I am a cell wall because I can protect people like the cell wall protects the cell. If my little brother gets picked on, I will protect him from the other kid. If someone falls down, I will help them stand up like the cell wall helps the plant cell stand up. My skin is pretty rigid like the cell wall. I am also built thick like the cell wall. Information comes in my ear and out of my mouth like the cell wall let's materials pass in and out. That is how I relate to the cell wall.

Blog Comments, Movie Editing, Book Trailers, and Science

Today we have a full plate, so I hope you are hungry!

First, we will be leaving comments on blogs, and posting our very own blog posts. I would like you to visit our sister school, Elsanor Elementary at this web address: http://ctp-elsanor.blogspot.com/ and leave a comment on any of the top three posts.

Rules to commenting: Credit to Mr. McClung and Mr. Chamberlain. Thank you for your rules and insight.

Your post for this week:

You are currently studying plant and animal cells in science. I would like you to write a post describing which part of the cell best matches a description of your personality, and tell me why.

For example: I most closely relate to the nucleus because the nucleus is the brain of the cell. It helps control eating, movement, and reproduction within the cell. As a classroom teacher, I direct us to the cafeteria, I monitor your behavior (or movements), and I organize productive activities. The nucleus is usually in the middle of the cell because that is the safest place for it to be. When you are working on your projects, I am usually right in the middle of the chaos as well, only for me-- that is usually not the safest place to be. That is why I relate to the nucleus.

Notice how I used the APES method to answer my prompt. Can you find the Answer, Proof, Extension, and Summary?

Before you are finished, you need to add a picture to your blog post. Find a cool picture of an animal or plant cell. It can be a diagram, illustration, or actual image.

While you are working on your blog posts, Jenna, Niaviana, and Miller will be preparing to instruct you all on how to make book trailers. So be ready to listen carefully because the techniques and methods they will be using will also be used when you start editing videos for our ibook next week!

Check out this website: http://www.biology4kids.com/files/cell_nucleus.html and see if you can find another one that is equally informative and easy to understand. Post it along with your picture and post in your blog.

Enjoy your Mardi Gras break!

Upon returning from Mardi GRAS break, we will be learning how to write our own multimedia book! This is a revolutionary practice that will make you all ground breakers of sorts! I hope to work along side Mrs. Henley and Mrs. Tschudy to line up our curriculum goals with the information you are already learning in class. We will be doing extended research, and learn how to use that research to write exciting text for others to use in the regular classroom! This will require you to ask questions, record science experiments, interview experts, etc. We will use all of this information to write our texts as we go. You will each be assigned a blog that is yours. You will use those blogs as a rough draft writing center for others to critique. You will use our class blog as a source for assignments, resources, and prompts.

Get ready for an exciting return! Practice your keyboarding skills over te break so we can make progress more quickly!

Author Study: Jan Brett

Today, we are going to launch a project that will be produced for the February 17th, 2012 Reading Rally. This year's reading rally theme is Jan Brett's book, The Mitten. So to prepare ourselves for this enormous undertaking, we need to get to know the author. Click here, or the image below to visit her extensive website.

As a child, Jan Brett decided to be an illustrator and spent many hours reading and drawing. She says, "I remember the special quiet of rainy days when I felt that I could enter the pages of my beautiful picture books. Now I try to recreate that feeling of believing that the imaginary place I'm drawing really exists. The detail in my work helps to convince me, and I hope others as well, that such places might be real."

Today, I want you to imagine that you are one of the animals from the story, only you know something about the mitten that the Jan Brett didn't mention... when you wiggle your way inside the mitten, it transforms your world into anything you can imagine. For your descriptive writing essay, I would like you to think of MANY, VARIED, and UNUSUAL things that you might see. What does it smell like? How does it make you feel? Who's there? What are they doing?

Remember, your essay will be used as narration for what your character is doing during our performance. You must be EXTREMELY DESCRIPTIVE. When I read your work, I want to feel like I have been transported to your imaginary world. Be sure to use similes and appropriate adjectives to convey the image that you want your audience to visualize.

A sideline project we will be touching on today is one that will help us develop our public speaking skills. Each week, from now until our Reading Rally, we will record ourselves reading a poem. This week's pic was The Bear, The Fire, and The Snow by Shel Silverstein. Below, you can see a clip of Byron and David reading away. Check in to watch our progress!

Visualizing with Torn Paper

Mrs. Luckey's third grade class listened to the Australian creation story. As part of developing our visualization comprehension strategy, they picked a scene that they visualized during the reading and illustrated it with crayons and torn paper. Click play on the slideshow below to see their great results!
